Bespoke Worktops Service

Bespoke worktops service at Norfolk Oak means pretty much anything you can imagine that can be done with a wooden worktop. Bespoke doesn't just mean sink cut outs, it can be oversized breakfast bars, large curves or complete circles - bespoke wooden worktops to any shape and size. Below is a list of the 'standard' options we offer. If you have more specific requirements in mind or would like to receive a complete quotation please visit our Receiving A Bespoke Worktops Quotation page for more information.

Pre-Installation Oiling Service

If you would like the reassurance of us oiling your wooden worktops ready for you to install or if you simply don’t have the time or means to do this yourself, we offer an oiling service.

With our pre oiling service we oil the top, bottom and all edges of the worktops so they will arrive ready for immediate installation. We use our Hot Oil Dip Tank to achieve this, which applies an ultra pure food grade linseed oil. It has a remarkably low protein content, which means at hot temperatures it gets absorbed in to timber much faster and deeper than ordinary linseed oil, or any other oil for that matter. It has no VOCs & is lovely to work with. It nurtures and protects the timber, but best of all it gives the most amazing finish. It really is beautiful, and has a natural patina and quality to it which is quite unbeatable.

When you then finish oil the worktops after installation, you can start from the lovely matt look that this provides and make the worktop finish what you want all the way up to a full gloss finish. We have tested this with a variety of different finishing oils, including special maintenance oil again from linseed which keeps everything totally natural, to our recommended Liberon finishing oil as well. Once the worktops are in place, the top and exposed edges will require further coats, around 6, and additional hand sanding to achieve the full protection and beautiful finish. With our oiling service full oiling instructions are supplied with order confirmation. This process is not at all onerous, and in fact is rather therapeutic. Each coat takes only a few minutes, and no specialist equipment is required.

Once the worktop is in, the top and exposed edges will require further coats, around 6, and additional hand sanding to achieve the full protection and beautiful finish. With our oiling service you are automatically supplied with the correct quantities of oil needed to finish the worktop for orders over 3 metres.

Costs start at £ 35 per linear metre.

Of course if you would prefer just to buy the oil it is £ 15 a litre, which is enough to finish one three metre long wooden worktop.

Other finishes are available on request from polyurethane to liming and staining. Please contact us for more information

Wooden Upstands (splashbacks)

Wooden upstands provide a wonderful aesthetic to the back edge of your kitchen worktop. However the secret benefit of wooden upstands is covering up all sorts of problems; walls which aren't straight, corners which are never quite 90 degrees. Fixing wooden upstands has been made simple with the advent of 'no more nails' glue - push the wooden upstand into place, hold firmly for a couple of minutes and that's it.

We make our wooden upstands in two styles; 'Wide Block Upstands' with joints along the length - suited to our Classic Wide Block worktops, and 'Super Stave Upstands' in continuous lengths with no joints - suited to our Super Stave and Traditional Plank wooden worktops.

Please ask for sizes over 3m or other custom sizes.

Worktop Edging

We offer a range of edging styles to compliment your wooden worktops. As standard our wooden worktops are supplied with square edges, whilst this creates a very clean and defined look, this won't however be to everyone's tastes.
Walnut Worktop Edging
As a guide, a simple pencil edging is enough to soften the edges of the worktop whilst a full bullnose rounds them completely.
We are able to produce a range of different edging types on request. Please feel free to contact us if you have any edging in mind that is not listed on our website.

Pencil Top edge only - £ 8 per metre

Pencil Top and bottom - £ 16 per metre

Bullnose - £ 24 per metre

Radius Corners

Radius corners provide an attractive finish to your worktops, whether part of an overall design or simply to remove a sharp corner.
Oak Worktop Radius Corner
As a guide, 40 mm is about right for the internal corners of a Belfast sink and 10 to 20 mm is great for rounding off the corner of a worktop where it might otherwise present a sharp point. Use large radius sizes of around 200 mm and over to make a real statement.

up to 50 mm - £ 15

51 mm to 250 mm - £ 25

over 250 mm - from £ 35

Butt Joins (joint between two worktops)

When two wooden worktops meet they require a method to join them. For this we recommend using a 90 degree butt join. Specially shaped bolt holes are routed out in the underside of your wooden worktops. This allows the fitting of worktop connector bolts designed to pull your worktops together to aid in the joining of the two separate worktops.

£ 48 per butt join (includes worktop connector bolts)

When joining two worktops we recommend the use of a clear silicone sealant between the worktops. This creates a flexible, waterproof joint that can be easily seperated should the worktops need to be removed for any reason (maybe taking them with you if you move home!)
