Iroko Worktops

At Norfolk Oak we have always been asked if we can provide Iroko worktops. Although we rarely say no to customer requests, in the instance of Iroko we have always had to. The reason for this is simple: at Norfolk Oak we are committed to only sourcing our timber from renewable sources. As there were no FSC® certified sources of Iroko this meant, reluctantly, we had to let our customers go to competitors who were prepared to source their timber from non-renewable sources. However, a well-managed source of Iroko has now become available and this is certified by the FSC®. As we can now obtain the timber from a certified supplier we are pleased to announce that we are now able to provide Iroko worktops. We are the only worktop supplier in the UK to manufacture our FSC® Iroko worktops from this source.

Iroko Worktop Style

iroko worktop styles

We produce our iroko worktops in four different styles:

1. Wide Block Iroko WorktopsWide Block iroko Worktop Style

Our classic wide block are a bit more special than the average, with random width, wide jointed staves showing off much more of the iroko grain pattern, they are very much the premium of iroko block worktops. Our iroko wide block worktops are our most cost effective option, representing considerable value for money in terms of quality and appearance when compared to mass produced narrow block worktops.

2. Traditional Plank Iroko WorktopsTraditional Plank iroko Worktop Style

Wide, planked oak worktops, a style pioneered by Norfolk Oak. Long, wide planks of iroko. This style of traditional plank was inspired by a stately home visit, where we discovered a similar technique had been used in four hundred year old wooden worktops.

3. Super Stave Iroko WorktopsSuper Stave Iroko Worktop Style

Full, single stave iroko worktops with wide, long planks. Very much the Rolls-Royce of iroko worktops! Super stave worktops have become something of a Norfolk Oak signature. Continuous, wide planks of timber running the whole length of your wooden worktop, really showing off the beautiful grain patterns of our furniture grade American White Oak.

Whether your requirements are based on aesthetics, budget or a combination of both, we have an oak worktop style to suit. We construct every worktop ourselves, made to order, to your exact sizes. We now offer our iroko super stave in thicknesses of 45mm, 60mm & 70mm. Please feel free to use our price calculator for pricing on almost any sized iroko worktop.

4. End grain iroko Worktopsend grain ash Worktop Style

Any good butcher will tell you the only real surface for chopping meat is an old-fashioned end grain butchers' block. We've simply refined those hugely practical attributes into some of the most fabulous defining details for a truly fabulous finish for a great kitchen. They make a great moveable chopping block or fixed worksurface.

About our Iroko

affrican iroko tree

The Iroko tree is found in the west coast of tropical Africa. Our Iroko is sustainably sourced in very large wide planks. After being freshly oiled in our Hot Oil Dipping tank, the iroko worktops possess a golden shimmering tone which darkens over time to a rich darker brown color.

This timber is commonly used for flooring and domestic furniture, because iroko has a naturally high oil content it's often preferable to outdoor use. This also makes it easier to maintain within the house when it comes to re-oiling and keeping out moisture.

Iroko is a very durable wood. Its grain is sharp, dark and irregular, which gives it that rustic appearance.

Worktop Finishing

Hot Oil Dip tank worktops

Hot Oil Dip
If you would like the reassurance of us pre-oiling your iroko worktops, we can do so in our Hot Oil Dip tank. Your iroko worktops will then arrive ready for you to install as soon as you receive them. Read more about our Pre-Treatment Service.

Nano Coating
Nano-coating is a 2 Part Process. The first application consists of 2 separate coatings, which are designed to react and bind with the timber. This treatment alone is not enough to protect timber but when combined with the second application, it protects the initial coat and forms a barrier against soap and alcohol etc. This second coating is water/scratch resistant, the daily wear and tear from sticky and wet glasses will prove the resilience of our nano coating.
