It’s a New Year and with that holds the excitement of new things to come;in the moments before the clock strikes midnight we reflect on the previous year, the things we’re proud of, the regrets we may have and the goals we’d like to take with us in to the New Year.
When the New Year arrives it can be hard to know where to begin implementing the new goals that you’ve set yourself. You are feeling fresh, motivated and determined. You are ready to grasp 2013 yet are equally unsure of where to start. So where exactly do you begin? For myself, I started by bringing life back into my home; when it’s dark and cold outside there is nothing more satisfying than submerging in your own home comforts. I started off by moving my furniture around to give it a different look, I bought fresh flowers and scented candles for that feminine touch that I desired. I invested in a personalised chopping board hoping to grow my culinary enthusiasm and ordered briquettes to allow myself to indulge in cosy wintry nights. I breathed new life into my timber furniture by applying maintenance coats of oil – something I do regularly to aid the longevity of my kitchen worktops and I finally got round to putting up those bathroom shelves that I had fully intended to put up months before!
Giving my home the ‘face-lift’ it needed meant I had re-created the haven that I had fallen in love with to start. I’ve stopped coming home and sitting there with my mind occupied adding to my to do list like I had done previously and instead sit and appreciate the things I have around me. After a day at work I am now able to relax into my surroundings and enjoy what my home provides for me. Having this non-nihilistic surrounding has facilitated me gaining peace of mind resulting in the ability to remain focused on the New Year and all the prosperity it holds. This won’t be a year where resolutions turn into a dusty memory of could have beens but instead a year where goals are implemented and achieved. Embrace all that 2013 could be.
It’s a New Year, so open your door into a world of
endless design possibilities…
