Earlier this week I disclosed to you how bad I can be at making decisions. This led me to write a blog on the lightly coloured timbers that we offer here at Norfolk Oak. So I thought that today I would be in keeping with this earlier blog and write about our dark timbers so that you can get a fair idea of what wooden worktops we have available for you.
As mentioned in the previous blog, at Norfolk Oak we offer 8 different timbers, four of which are light and four that are dark. This particular blog will focus on the darker timbers of which all are individual and will become a focal point of your kitchen.
Firstly we have one of my personal favourites Sapele Worktops. Its deep red/orange and brown tones have a stunning yet subtle patina. The grain is interlocked resulting in a narrow and uniform stripe formation. It is a durable timber with its strength being compared to that of Oak Worktops and it works beautifully in a modern kitchen setting.

West African Mahogany is one of the lighter of these dark timbers. With red hues and a thin brownish straight grain it will look fabulous against both light and dark units with thanks to its mid dark to light appearance. Mahogany is an extremely tough and stable timber making it the perfect material for those who are heavier handed in the kitchen.

On from this we have our Iroko Worktops which darken over time and contains a combination of colours both light and dark. It has a unique variety of straight and fiddleback grain pattern as is evident in the photograph. Iroko has beautiful golden tones mixed in with rich shades of brown.ย This is a fantastic choice if you are finding it impossible to choose between a light or dark timber because it overlaps both properties.

Lastly we have our Black American Walnut Worktops. This is the darkest timber that we can manufacture your worktop in and looks breath-taking when finished. A combination of light brown and rich chocolate colour this timber is perfect for creating both modern and traditional kitchens and looks beautiful against light units. The paradox of a straight and wavy grain pattern makes Walnut a great thing of beauty. It is strong and burly and is another of my favourites.

One of the great things about choosing a wooden worktop is that you cannot go wrong. It is very much a personal choice and all of our timbers are equally as beautiful and durable. Our darker timbers are great for creating both modern and traditional-modern kitchens and will transform the heart of your home wonderfully. Whichever timber you decide to opt for, light or dark, I can assure you that you wonโt be disappointed.
